What is Satan's last name, and why is it unknown? If anybody does know it, who has that information? What happened to those who knew his first name? We do not know his name period. It is NOT Lucifer as is commonly believed. The devils name is not Lucifer, we do not know Satan’s name when he was an angel. The name came about because of an early mistranslated Hebrew scripture in Isaiah 14:12 which had nothing to do with Satan but was discussing a King of Babylon likely Nebuchadnezzar. One of his titles was “morning star” in Hebrew which a translator converted into the Latin Lucifer which translated to English reads "light bearer" not "morning star". According to the King James Bible-based Strong's Concordance, the original Hebrew word means "shining one, light-bearer", and the translation given in the King James text is the Latin name for the planet Venus. A Latin name would not have appeared in a Hebrew text. It is accepted by Bible scholars that the name Lucifer was misapplied. This particular name allegedly for Satan only appears in the original 1611 King James Bible and any direct copies of it. You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! King Nebuchadnezzar was stricken with a mental illness, by Jehovah’s hand due to his pride, and lived like a beast in the fields for 7 years until Jehovah restored his sanity. That is likely what these verses are referring to. The International Children’s Bible is probably the most correct rendition even if paraphrased: 14 King of Babylon, morning star, you have fallen from heaven, even though you were as bright as the rising sun! In the past all the nations on earth bowed down before you. The Bible states that Satan or the Devil was a ranking angel in heaven. He was a Cherub as described in the Book of Ezekiel. When Satan was in Eden (he was there as a guide and helper to Adam and Eve) he decided that he was just as good as God and coveted the earth and mankind. He rebelled against Jehovah God, the Creator, induced Adam to join that rebellion and is responsible for the mess the world is in today as he is running it. Those are the facts about the devil according to scripture. The nouns Satan and Devil are not names as such, they are descriptive of him, We do not know his name. Satan: Resister. adversary, rebel.
