Is it true that Christianity of today is based on most of the Paul's teachings rather than Jesus's?

Yes, modern christianity is based on what the apostle Paul taught, rather than what Jesus taught.

Jesus was all about works.

Paul claimed “salvation” is all about faith, not works.

Paul never met Jesus, never quoted anything Jesus said while living, and seemed to have no knowledge of Jesus’s earthly ministry or teachings.

Imagine being a christian and never once quoting Christ.

Weird, huh?

As a matter of fact, Paul sometimes flatly contradicted the teachings of Jesus.

For instance, Jesus said, “Do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, who is in heaven." (Matthew 23:9)

But Paul told other christians to call him father. (1 Corinthians 4:15, Philemon 1:10)

Furthermore, Paul had some really stupid teachings…

  • Slaves should obey their masters, even cruel and unjust masters.
  • Paul even returned a christian slave to his christian master, Philemon.
  • Christians should obey unjust rulers because they are established by god. Did god establish Hitler, really?
  • Women are not allowed to speak in church.
  • Women should submit to the authority of their husbands.
  • Women cannot have authority over men.
  • Etc.

One wonders what Jesus would have said about Paul’s teachings. I doubt that he would be a fan.

It was noted in the comments that Paul probably didn’t say everything attributed to him in the Pauline epistles, and I agree. However, I argue against the bible regardless of who wrote it, so I will stick to my guns.
