If Satan was defeated at the cross, why is he still allowed to cause so much chaos in the world?
Without going into a lot of scripture references I’ll only add to the discussion what I believe brings it all around to a short answer to your question. First we (HUMANS) must realize that we are dealing with a Spiritual Realm/World/Reality where we not only are not in control but that we have NO understanding or comprehension of. Also we cannot conceive of a term like Eternity whether that is eternity future or eternity past. In short where eternity is involved time drops out of the equation because it is no longer relevant to whatever is ask. In this case you wonder WHY Satan is allowed to continue and live to cause so much chaos and I’m saying that he isn’t. Remember Satan is also a Spiritual being and is eternal in nature as God has created even him as being.
With reference to eternity one year is as one second is as one million years …. it is but an INSTANT in time because with respect to eternity and respect to God (Eternal, Spirit - John 4:24 AMP“God is spirit [the Source of life, yet invisible to mankind], and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”) So Satan may seemingly be allowed time to go to and fro and back and forth through the earth and our lives but with respect to God’s Realm, the Spiritual realm and eternal He is not. Satan’s time is but a measure in time along an infinite timeline that has no bearing Spiritually speaking because with respect to eternity there is no bearing of time.
Considering it from a Human, or physical, perspective then time does have bearing and has definition and like many things the answer to your question is essentially … it has to be taken on Faith in that there is no definite answer that is understandable or acceptable by Human standards. It’s like trying to understand the death of an infant that is newborn or a child. There are things that we, humans, have difficulty understanding and comprehending yet those are functions of being Human and having extremely limited spiritual understanding. Remember that with respect to the Spiritual realm, God’s dwelling place as God is Spirit, time has no bearing or definition because it’s measured and considered with respect to Eternity so literally one day is essentially the same as one million years and only becomes relevant with respect to Human or physical understanding and sadly mankind does not have the ability to see things as God sees them. We make physical or human judgments based upon our own very limited understanding of things rather than, by Faith, and Prayer seeking to accept things as being God’s Will or looking at them from a Spiritual way …. Romans 8:28.
And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.
