The Mystery Behind the Creation of Eve Uncovered
“So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place.”(Genesis 2:21 CSB)
On the surface, this passage may appear to simply describe the creation of Adam’s bride. However, it reveals the mysterious and prophetic plan of God—one that ultimately points to Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 46:10 (CSB) — “I declare the end from the beginning, and from long ago what is not yet done, saying: my plan will take place, and I will do all my will.”
From the very beginning, God's plan has been prophetic, pointing to His Son and the creation of His bride—the Church.
Isaiah 62:5 (ESV) — “For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.”
2 Corinthians 11:2 (CSB) — “For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy, because I have promised you in marriage to one husband—to present a pure virgin to Christ.”
Ephesians 5:25–28 (CSB) — “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word. He did this to present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless. In the same way, husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.”
Revelation 19:7 (CSB) — “Let us be glad, rejoice, and give him glory, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has prepared herself.”
Just as God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and opened his side to form his bride, so too did Jesus fall into the deep sleep of death on the cross. A Roman centurion pierced His side—through His ribs and into His heart—and God later “closed the flesh” by raising Him from the dead three days later.
Genesis 2:22 (CSB) — “Then the LORD God made the rib he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.”
In the same way, God formed the Church—the Bride of Christ—from the heart of Jesus, from the blood and water that flowed when He was pierced. This is why the true foundation of the true Church is love. We are repeatedly commanded to love God, love our enemies, and love one another.
Matthew 22:36–39 (CSB) — “Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
1 Corinthians 13 reminds us that without love, we are nothing—and that love is the greatest of all virtues.
“This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.”(Genesis 2:24 CSB)
In the same way, Jesus left His Father to bond with His bride, the Church, and the two became one body.
1 Corinthians 12:27 (ESV) — “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”
Romans 12:5 (CSB) — “In the same way we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another.”
Finally, after Eve was created, Scripture says:
“Both the man and his wife were naked, yet felt no shame.”(Genesis 2:25 CSB)
Here is the amazing part—unlike Adam, Jesus clothes His bride. He gives her garments of righteousness.
Revelation 19:8 (CSB) — “She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure. For the fine linen represents the righteous acts of the saints.”
Let us keep our garments clean by walking in obedience to His commands—not conforming to the patterns of this world, but renewing our minds through the Word of God to discern His perfect will.
Revelation 22:14 (CSB) — “Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.”
Here is our spiritual "bar soap" 🧼:
1 John 1:9 (CSB) — “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Thank you for reading. May we walk daily in love, clothed in righteousness, as the bride prepared for our Bridegroom—Christ Jesus.
