What's so important about 1 Corinthians 15:3-8?
It’s an important passage because it illustrates how the Bible can get away with making entirely non-credible claims, and specifically, how the Apostle Paul can make bogus statements and yet have them believed.
Why do we say the claim he makes in this passage is bogus and not credible?
- Because it is hearsay (as Paul himself admits), and not based upon his own testimony.
- Because there is not a shred of corroborative evidence to support it.
- Because we do not have the name of a single one of this 500.
- Because the gospel writers, three of whom were at pains to demonstrate the truth of Jesus' resurrection, totally ignore it.
- Because no other New Testament author mentions it
- Because no church father mentions it - suggesting that even they didn’t believe the claim.
- Because no contemporary historian or chronicler of the goings-on in first-century Palestine refers to this extraordinary event.
In short, it appears that Paul is the only person that seems to be aware that it even happened.
