No body actually knows what happened to Moses body on the mountain. The writer only assumed that God buried Moses body since it was customary to bury the dead, considering that God would not leave Moses body unattended to. Moses went unto the mountain, and the rest of it we can't tell how it went.

For me, that Moses actually went up the mountain is enough for me, I take it further from Jude. Satan and Michael disputed over the body of Moses; why? We can see in the scriptures that Moses and Elijah are considered the two anointed ones standing before the God of the earth - Zechariah 4:12–14, Rev 11, Matt 17:1–3. Now, if we consider one of the duo, Elijah, we can relate that the other did not die, but that he was made to sleep and carried into heaven, after all, the scene of his departure is not clear on death.

Therefore, I would say Moses was taken to heaven where God is, but not in the same manner that Elijah was taken. He was made to sleep and carried to heaven by an angel. Satan wanted to play smart to craftily prevent the body of Moses from being taken to heaven. He understood the role Moses will play in the future.
