Which actor has lost out on a movie role because they demanded to be paid more money than they were offered?

When Disney were producing Mary Poppins Returns (2018), the sequel to the original 1964 film Mary Poppins they allegedly offered the star of the original, Julie Andrews $8 million dollars to appear in a cameo as Balloon Lady. This was a phenomenal amount of money for what would be just a few days work. Bear in mind that Sylvester Stallone had offered Bruce Willis €3 million for just three days work on one of the Expendable films. When Willis demanded $4 million, Stallone called him greedy, told him to get lost and cast Harrison Ford (not Dolph Lundgren as I originally wrote, thanks to Frederic) for a fraction of what Willis was offered.

Back to Andrews, who has since gone on the record saying that she didn’t want to take part as it would deflect from the main star Emily Blunt, yeah right, it’s just a cameo. Stars of the original film Dick Van Dyke and Karen Dotrice signed up for small cameos in the sequel.

Rumour has it that Julie Andrews demanded $10 million to take part. Disney refused to meet her exorbitant demands and instead cast Angela Lansbury in the role, paying her $200,000, for a couple of days work.
