In 2017, a respected Englishman appeared at an Aldi supermarket with a flat-screen television in its original packaging.
He then informed the cashier that he had changed his mind and wanted a refund. He no longer wanted the television.
The device appears to be in perfect working order and is still in its original packaging. The customer also states that he has not opened the packaging or connected the television.
The cashier will then ask you for the receipt in order to process the refund.
The customer doesn't have the receipt. He can't find it.
Under these conditions, the cashier cannot refund your purchased goods.
That doesn't matter; the customer then demands to speak to the supermarket manager. The manager arrives shortly afterwards, and the two withdraw to discuss the matter.
After a few minutes, the manager shakes the customer's hand with a broad smile and leaves. The cashier observes the scene from a distance.
The customer then contacts him and demands a refund, as the boss has just confirmed the transaction.
The cashier respects this and refunds the customer €400 in cash.
Except... the wrong customer never bought the TV. He simply took it off the shelf a minute earlier and then brought it to the checkout.
He then chatted with the branch manager about a seemingly harmless topic, just to get a smile and a handshake!
Clearly.
When the supermarket management noticed the mistake, they launched a search for witnesses, and the thief was quickly found.
