Was Apostle Paul really beheaded for his faith in Rome?
Yes, in 64 or 67 AD, at a site now called Tre Fontane beside the Via Laurentina, which branches off the Via Ostiense. It is about two miles south from the basilica of San Paolo fuori le Mura, where the Apostle's body is interred.
The address of the Trappist monastery on the site is Abbazia delle Tre Fontane, Via delle Acque Salve 1, 00142 Roma. There are two other churches nearby.
The site has a profoundly peaceful, spiritual quality. It is not difficult to believe that Paul was martyred there, even if the story of his head bouncing three times and three fountains miraculously appearing may strain one's credulity.
