#IN MAY 1945,A CRYING GERMAN GIRL WAS FORCED TO WALK PASS HUNDREDS OF DEAD BODIES
In May 1945, a crying German girl was forced to walk past hundreds of dead bodies buried near her own village. This event was photographed by an American photographer.
Nammering, Germany, is the name of the location.
Only a month earlier, a train transporting starving prisoners from a Nazi death camp stopped there, and about a thousand people who could not go further were murdered and buried in the forest.
Then came the U.S. troops.
As the Allied forces began to uncover Nazi crimes, German civilians insisted that they knew nothing about them. But in Nammering, the U.S. army took a different decision.
They forced the villagers to go to the forest and dig out about 800 dead bodies. After that, they arranged them in rows along a road.
And then all the villagers were forced to walk past these corpses.
Among them there was the girl shown in the photo.
What she thought and knew before that day is impossible for us to establish. But we can see how the hidden dead appeared before her eyes in the picture.
She covered her face and cried.
The graves were opened. The bodies were in full view. No more concealment.
History made sure that the camera would catch this moment.
How can humans be so cruel even to this day sad really π
