1. He smiles a lot - People are disarmed by smiling and if there’s one that Jackie Chan does a LOT of when cameras are pointed at him is smile.
2. He seems like a nice guy - You don’t normally see Chan acting like a jerk in public and so most people who have branded him to be a “nice guy”.
3. He keeps most of his personal life out of the North American media - While Asian media sources and those in Europe have sussed out his less pleasant aspects, in the United States he’s seen as not too bad a guy and that’s help him get over.
4. He did most of his “dirt” in Hong Kong and China - Chan was smart enough to be an asshole in Asia. If he did a lot jerk crap in the greater world, more people would not be as favorable toward him. He’s a POS when he’s home, not abroad.
5. He has an exceptional public relations machine - Whatever you may believe about the man, he’s able to direct the narrative about him. Even when he’s been at a low ebb, he’s been able to get out favorable messages concerning himself and his activities. That takes an exceptional public relations machine and Chan seems to have one of the best.
